Our Mission

Our mission is to improve the economic mobility of individuals from all walks of life by offering in-demand career certifications and professional development training critical to today’s global workforce.

Our program serves youth starting at age (13)+, adults at any age, and non-natives.

Our Vision 

We envision a community of lifelong learners who are continuously empowered to create opportunity for themselves.

English for a Lifetime  Career Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) organization registered in the state of Georgia.  The foundation exists to close the skills gap in today's workforce by offering professional course certification in a variety of workforce industries, professional development critical to the workforce, lifelong career mentorships, and partnerships with employers, seeking to upskill and reskill their employees.

English for a Lifetime Career Foundation empowers all our learners to become career/workforce-ready, independent thinkers, globally competitive citizens, and lifelong learners.   We provide fully funded scholarship certificate courses to every learner who enrolls.

Executive Board of Directors

Joel Floyd, PhD

   President/ Executive Director  

Dr. Joel Floyd is the founding principal and the School Director at English for a Lifetime Language Institute, located in Peachtree Corners, GA since 2012. English for a Lifetime provides multilingual adults and families with limited English proficiency academic and vocational English for personal, workforce and continuing education purposes.

​

As an adult education school leader and champion of adult education, Dr. Floyd’s constant goal is to ensure that faculty, staff, and all internal stakeholders are provided with a robust skill set that evidences successful adult learner (learning) outcomes and workforce readiness.

​

Dr. Floyd has led several teacher professional development seminars across the state of Georgia undergirded by both practical and theoretical research, technology, and current trends in the adult education field. He has also published several articles surrounding critical pedagogy/ andragogy among adult English language learners and teacher professional development in the adult education field.

​

Dr. Floyd’s career experiences have given him abundant opportunities to create and implement effective strategies for multilingual adult student recruitment, retention, student affairs, adult learner theories, and the building of adult education school and community relations. Additionally, he has gained a wealth of experience for-profit and nonprofit school planning, mass marketing initiatives, budgetary oversight.

​

Dr. Floyd’s research interests focus on critical pedagogy in adult English language learning, adult basic education teacher professional development, learning, the retention and recruitment of multilingual adult learners, and most recently career and workforce readiness amongst adults domestically and globally. Dr. Floyd has served as the 2nd Vice Present at Georgia TESOL (GATESOL.org) and Interest Section leader of social responsibility and a mentor of the Big Brother/ Sisters organization in Atlanta, GA. He currently serves as a board member at Keiser University (graduate school of education) and is a member of the Coalition of Adult and Basic Education (COABE) which represents over 79,000 adult educators in the USA alone. Likewise, Dr. Floyd has been appointed as a fellow in the  2024 State Advocates for Adult Education (SAAEF) where he will continue to champion the cause of adult education in the state of Georgia. 

 

Dr. Floyd philosophy of education is couched in these words, “If you can’t feed a hundred people, then just feed one.”

Derrick Morton, PhD

Vice President

Dr. Derrick Morton received his Ph.D. in Biology from Clark Atlanta University and completed his
postdoctoral training at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Morton is currently a tenure
track Assistant Professor and Principal Investigator at the University of Southern California in
Los Angeles, CA.

 

His research program focuses on studying how defects in ubiquitous
molecular machinery critical for accurate gene expression cause tissue-specific brain disorders.
Throughout Dr. Morton’s career, he has been dedicated to providing a broad spectrum of interested individuals with laboratory research experience, including fostering the career development of diverse scientists. To demonstrate his commitment to diversity, equity, and
inclusion in higher education, he has established, facilitated, and participated in numerous
outreach activities.

 

Over the course of Dr. Morton’s career, he has served in several leadership  and advisory positions for diversity-related initiatives in higher education, including providing K-12 students with research opportunities and serving on several national committees committed to diversifying both graduate and medical schools across the country.

 

Combined, Dr. Morton’s
commitment to research, diversity, and inclusion in higher education is illustrated by his service,
thus bringing a unique perspective to the laboratory, classroom, and community.

Brianna Shaw, BA

Secretary /Treasurer

Brianna Adams grew up in a small Kansas town, working construction with her family, learning at honors levels throughout her schooling, and competing in various athletic activities. Brianna moved to Georgia to attend the University of North Georgia shortly after her high school graduation.

 

While attending UNG she competed on the NCAA Rifle Team, earning many academic and athletic awards, completed a reading endorsement, and obtained a Teaching English as a Foreign Language Certificate. After finishing her full-time student teaching and graduating with a Early Childhood & Special Education Dual Degree, Brianna started her career as an English teacher in Nanchang, China. 

 

In China. Brianna worked as a Foreign Language teacher. Her duties consisted of creating, planning, and delivering interactive and engaging English lessons to students ranging between 2 - 13 years old. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling, hiking, and exploring the history throughout the city/country.

 

Mrs. Adams returned to the U.S. during the COVID Pandemic and continued her teaching career as a 3rd Grade homeroom teacher. She has worked with English for a Lifetime Institute for 2 years teaching adult English Language Learners and is currently a 4th Grade Math, Science, and Social Studies teacher.

 

Brianna spends her free time leisure reading, enjoying the outdoors through hikes, tubing, or traveling to new places with her husband, and/or showing her craftsman skills through sewing, crocheting, and scrapbooking.

 

Mrs. Adams' motto through life would be through the words of Clo Mailen, "Live for the moments you can't put into words."

Jason Bell, MBA

Member at Large 

Jason L Bell  is an operations management executive with over 28 years of managing complex
engineering projects and teams. By day, Jason is an operations project manager for an international energy projects organization. He served 20 years as a Submarine nuclear power plant specialist in the United States Navy. In recent years, Jason has turned to helping more organizational leaders by
providing executive coaching services.

 

Jason graduated from Old Dominion University in Virginia with a Mechanical Engineering Technology degree and Emory University in Atlanta with a Masters in Business
Administration.


Born in the Republic of Panama, Jason appreciates international travel and respects various cultures and the pursuit of the American Dream. He loves helping others explore their value and frequently reminds people that there is no limit to what you can achieve. His best advice is, Get a business education or hang around people who have one. His Favorite quote is  Do Stuff! Don't NOT Do Stuff!


Jason enjoys cooking, dinner parties, stimulating conversation, and sharing wonderful life experiences with his spouse and three girls, Diana, Avery, and Aliya.
